DRAMA FESTIVAL IN THE STAR NEWS PAPER


JOHOR BAHRU - Mohammad Shafiq Zamre may not be fluent in English,but he puts up a brave front by conversing in English while perfoming in his school's drama festival .
   The Lower Six student of SMK Permas Jaya said everyone should have the confidence and courage to learn English .
   "Many of us reluctant to speak English for fear of making mistakes or pronoucing words wrongly but the best way to improve is by learning from your mistakes," he said .
   Mohd. Shafiq was among 130 students who performed in the school's English drama festival.
   He said he did not feel embarassed when his frineds,who were more proficient in English,coreected his pronunciation.
   "It is learning process for me . In fact , I want to become an English teacher,"he added.
   Another participant Y .Mishanny ,18, said the drama festival was a good platform for the students to express themselves in English.
   Event organiser R.Ramesh , who is also SMK Permas Jaya's MUET panel head,said he was proud of his students for making the show a successful one .
   "The main objective of the festival is to improve the students' English proficiency by allowing them to pen their own plays," he said .
